Changing your indoor water fountain water
Careful owners should completely change the fountain’s water every
four to six months. The process is very simple. It also gives you the opportunity
to clean the pump and remove accumulated debris, both of which can adversely
affect your fountain. The biggest step is removing the old water. We recommend
that you discard of the unwanted water by pouring it down a toilet as opposed
to a sink. The water could have a strong odor, as well as algae growth, that
you may not want in the area you wash your hands and food. This also assumes
that the fountain does not have a drain plug to use for draining the fountain.
Disassemble: For small fountains, the best way to remove
water is to disassemble them and discard the water. Original setup instructions
that come with your fountain will provide instructions on how to reassemble
your individual fountain.
Pumping: For larger fountains, the easiest method is to
take an extra pump or the existing pump in the fountain to remove the water
from the basin. Attach a long tube to the extra pump, lower the pump into
the basin and proceed to pump the water out of the fountain.
Siphoning: The method of siphoning removes water from your
fountain in a way similar to how people remove water from fish tanks. You
can purchase a siphoning hose at Home Depot or similar home repair stores.
Siphoning hoses are easy to use and generally cost under $20.00.
