Adding Water to Your Indoor Fountain

Adding Water to Your Indoor Fountain

Water and Your Fountain
Water is the single most important aspect to a fountain-that's a given. The most enjoyable fountain will utilize water in a soothing way, with a pleasant flowing noise, minimal splashing, no leaking, a crystal-clear look and zero smell.

Adding Water to Your Indoor Fountain
Regular tap water contains minerals, like calcium, that builds up on surfaces over time. Minerals accumulating in your decorative indoor fountain can damage the pump and leave behind unsightly spots on your fountain's surface. Filling your fountain with distilled water instead of tap water will keep mineral deposits from forming in your fountain. Mineral deposits ruin your beautiful fountain by causing the pump to work harder and stop working sooner. Distilled water is mineral-free, available in most grocery stores and costs comparable to other bottled waters. Calcium, mineral and hard water deposits can be frustrating to remove once they amass, the best advice is to prevent them by using distilled water or Protec, a water treatment product, who's formula can reduce the need for distilled water.

Use Protec®
If tap water is used in your decorative indoor fountain, a water treatment product called Protec® will definitely be need. Protec is an additive that prevents and removes deposits, which will insure a preserved pump and a beautiful decorative indoor fountain. Protec® can be purchased in most aquarium, pet and pool supply stores.

Use Fountec® (if necessary)
In a decorative indoor water fountain, algae growth is not too common. But, it is possible. If algae growth appears, a product called Fountec® can solve the problem. Fountec® is sold the same places as Protec®.
